Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

184 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will review a refusal of a grant approval for land (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3294/00]

I have reviewed the decision of my predecessor, as conveyed to the Deputy in reply to a parliamentary question dated 26 January 2000. The application was not refused solely on the grounds that the land was incapable of producing a commercial crop of timber. There were serious environmental considerations as set out in the previous reply. Each application is considered on its own merits and I have no grounds for reversing the original decision in this case.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

185 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has received an application in respect of an urban woodland grant for Belleek Forest Enhancement Committee, Ballina, County Mayo; if so, if he has examined this application; the position in regard to a grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3397/00]

No application was made by the committee for grant assistance under the urban woodland scheme which is in any event confined to local authorities. A similar scheme, the amenity woodland scheme, applied to private woodland owners but the committee made no application for assistance under that scheme either.
