Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

393 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received representations on behalf of an individual for a certificate of naturalisation; if so, if he has examined this application; the conclusions, if any, he has arrived at; the reason he referred in his letter of 30 November 1999 to a previous decision of 20 March 1997; the reason he did not indicate in this letter the action he was proposing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3299/00]

I have received a number of representations on behalf of the named individual for a certificate of naturalisation. The application referred to in the Deputy's question was refused by my predecessor. In light of the length of time which has elapsed since that decision, I would not propose to consider that particular application.

In a reply dated 30 November, 1999, to a representation received in my Department from the applicant, he was advised that in view of further information submitted he may wish to lodge a fresh application. Regrettably, through an oversight, in the reply to a letter from the Deputy reference was not made to this option. I understand that a new application has now been submitted and it will be processed in the normal way.
