394 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the request of a person (details supplied) to remain in this country will be reviewed on compassionate grounds in view of the appeal made on his behalf by O'Connell's School, North Richmond Street, Dublin 1. [3383/00]

On the basis of a recommendation from the independent appeals authority, Mr. Peter Finlay SC, the person in question's application for asylum was rejected.

However, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I have decided to grant temporary leave to remain, on humanitarian grounds, for a period of 12 months initially.
