Ceist:

60 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a grant has not been paid under the REP scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7200/00]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh):

The person named joined the REP scheme on 1 May 1997 and has received all payments due in respect of his participation to date.

An amended plan was received on 30 July 1998. The plan showed a reduction in eligible area. Accordingly, the level of payment was reduced and money paid in respect of land no longer subject to REPS requirements must be recouped. Under the terms and conditions of the scheme where land is disposed of during the period of a REPS contract a proportionate reduction in payment must be made.
