134 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will include all of Achill Island in the Gaeltacht in view of the fact the off-shore island is divided into Gaeltacht and non-Gaeltacht sections; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7313/00]
I shall shortly be submitting a proposal to Government that a commission, Coimisiún na Gaeltachta, be established whose role will be to make recommendations as to how the position of the Irish language may be strengthened as the everyday language of the people of the Gaeltacht. The draft terms of refer ence of the commission require it to make recommendations regarding the Gaeltacht boundaries.
