Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Financial Regulation.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

138 Mr. Bell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on the recent call made by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland for the continuation of self-regulation of the profession; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7998/00]

I have established a review group on auditing whose terms of reference specifically includes, at my request, an examination of the merits of self-regulation in the auditing profession. The submission by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland is one of over 30 submissions which the review group has received. Pending receipt of the group's report, I do not intend to comment publicly on any of these submissions, as it would not be proper for me to do so.
