Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Planning Boundaries.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

218 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will give a full report on his meetings and communications with Dublin Port Company and Dublin Corporation outlining the present position on the planning application for the proposed infill of 52 acres by the company. [8501/00]

As I stated in my reply to Question No. 249 of 15 February, I understand that Dublin Corporation accepts that for practical planning purposes its maritime boundary is the high water mark and that proposed development below that line would not fall to be considered by the corporation. However, as I stated, I am considering putting down an amendment in relation to planning permission for developments on the foreshore on Committee Stage of the Planning and Development Bill, 1999, which is currently before the Dáil.

I have not had any meetings or communications with the Dublin Port Company or Dublin Corporation regarding the proposed infill project. However, officials of my Department have had some informal discussions with Dublin Corpor ation regarding the matter. These discussions did not go beyond the issue of jurisdiction referred to above. The position in relation to any planning application is a matter entirely for the planning authority concerned.
