Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.
The Government, in December 1998, decided to proceed with the conversion of the Land Registry and the Registry of Deeds to a commercial semi-State body.
The preparation of the legislation required to give effect to the conversion is under way at the moment. The draft scheme of a Bill has been circulated to Departments for observations and these are being assessed at present.
I intend to submit the draft scheme to the Government for approval in the near future, although final drafting is unlikely to be completed before the end of this year.
