Vol. 516 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cycling Promotion.

Ceist:

251 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps, if any, his Department has taken to encourage members of staff to cycle to work; and if he will consider a cycling allowance to promote cycling. [8635/00]

My Department provides as many bicycle racks as possible in the car parks of any relevant building associated with it to facilitate members of staff who cycle to work.

The matter of considering a cycling allowance to promote cycling would be one ultimately for my colleague, the Minister for Finance. However, it is not the practice to pay officers travelling expenses for going to and from work, regardless of the mode of transport used.
