86 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if the ESB eel survey has been completed; the plans, if any, he has to conserve eel stocks in the Shannon River catchment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9594/00]
The ESB has informed me that its eel survey of the River Shannon has now been completed and it intends to publish it within the next few weeks. I will establish an eel fishery review group to examine all issues relating to the development and regulation of the sector and to submit proposals to me in this regard. This review will include the conservation of eel stocks in the River Shannon catchment. I will invite the key players in the sector to participate in the review, including the ESB.
