Vol. 517 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Strength.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

375 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of additional gardaí assigned to County Kildare in the past twelve months; if he has satisfied himself that this number meets the needs of the population in Kildare in view of the fact that every town in Kildare has seen a rise in its population figures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10835/00]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the number of gardaí – all ranks – in County Kildare, which currently stands at 306, has remained the same for the past 12 months.

I have been further informed that the allocation of personnel is constantly under review and when personnel next become available the needs of County Kildare will be fully considered in the overall context of other Garda divisions-districts throughout the country.
