Vol. 518 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

141 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the flooding which occurred at Christmas 1999 at Shannon Banks housing estate, County Clare; the discussions, if any, with Clare County Council to set out a programme of repairs; the plans, if any, he has to pay compensation to the householders for the damage caused; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11471/00]

While I was made aware of many areas around the country which flooded over the past winter, the flooding which occurred at the Shannon Banks housing estate, County Clare, at Christmas 1999 was not specifically brought to my attention. Accordingly, there have not been any discussions held with Clare County Council in the matter regarding the circumstances which gave rise to the flooding in that area, and there are no proposals to prepare a scheme for alleviating the causes of the flooding. Since I have not hitherto received details of damages caused or costings, etc, nor any requests for financial assistance in that regard on behalf of the householders there, I am not in a position to give any commitments in relation to such an application at this time.
