Vol. 518 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

164 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Kildare will qualify for backdated mortgage relief; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11944/00]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes received claims from the taxpayer on 10 April 2000 for tax relief in respect of mortgage interest, medical insurance and permanent health benefit for the tax years 1994-95 to date.

Arrangements are being made to issue a revised certificate of tax-free allowances to the taxpayer for the current tax year, 2000-01.

PAYE balancing statements for the tax years 1994-95 to 1998-99 reflecting the appropriate reliefs claimed, including mortgage interest relief, will issue to the taxpayer as soon as possible. With regard to 1999-2000, the inspector has requested the taxpayer to forward his P60 to enable the inspector to finalise the taxpayer's claim for that year.
