Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Tests.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

376 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has satisfied himself that the location for the permanent driving test centre in Castlebar, County Mayo, is suitable for that purpose in view of the fact that the area is used extensively by schoolchildren going to and from sports activities. [12544/00]

The new permanent driving test centre in Castlebar is located adjacent to one of two sports facilities deemed suitable for use as a test location by my Department. The contract for its use as a test centre was awarded following a competitive tendering process conducted by the Office of Public Works. I am satisfied that the use of the adjacent sports complex by schoolchildren will not impact on the testing of applicants at the centre.
