The drafting of the report of the interdepartmental-agency review group is well under way and I look forward to receiving a copy of the report as soon as it is finalised.
During the course of its review, the group advertised for submissions from interested parties on the issue of public safety. I understand the review group received both written and oral submissions from various organisations on a multitude of issues, including the electrical contracting industry. All the submissions received are being considered by The review group, and will assist in the overall formulation of the group's report and recommendations.
It is my understanding that matters pertaining to public safety in the electrical contracting industry have heretofore come under the auspices of the former Department of Energy and its successors, currently the Department of Public Enterprise. This continues to be the position pending any future arrangements which might be made either in the light of the work of the review group or otherwise.
