Vol. 520 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Warden Service.

Ceist:

151 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans if any he has to expand the community warden service to the Dublin local authorities; if he will give details of the terms of reference for the task force working on the community warden service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16301/00]

Local task forces are being established in each of the five pilot authorities for the community warden service Galway Corporation, Galway, Leitrim and Wexford County Councils and Naas UDC. The task forces are to prepare detailed implementation proposals for their respective pilots. The implementation proposals will deal with issues which are essential to the introduction of a new service such as recruitment, training, hours of duty etc. and also with issues which are particular to their individual local circumstances, such as duties, rostering and transport requirements.

It is expected that the pilots will commence early next year and will run for three years. There will be a comprehensive evaluation of the pilots before deciding on wider introduction of the service, including introduction to the Dublin authorities.
