Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

John Perry

Ceist:

287 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the inadequate accommodation in Riverstown national school, County Sligo, where a new teacher has been appointed, but there is no classroom available for her; the progress that has been made on the provision of a new school; the stage at which the plans are for the school in view of the fact there are 90 children in the school which is located in a school catchment area that is experiencing an increase in numbers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16481/00]

An application for a replacement school building on a new site for Riverstown national school has been received in my Department. This application is being examined in the planning section of my Department to determine the school's long-term accommodation requirements in the context of all relevant factors, including enrolment and demographic trends.

Any request by the board of management for temporary accommodation to cater for the school's immediate needs will be considered favourably pending a decision on permanent accommodation.

I have asked that the matter be concluded as speedily as possible.
