Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Authority.

David Stanton

Ceist:

61 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 142 of 30 November 1999, the task force on the prevention of workplace bullying has reported to her; if so, the plans she has to combat stress and bullying in the workplace; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16495/00]

The task force on the prevention of workplace bullying is examining workplace bullying in detail and is focusing on identifying the size of the problem and the employment sectors most at risk as well as developing proposals for practical programmes and strategies, both to prevent workplace bullying, and to provide a more appropriate stream-lined response from the relevant State agencies.

The task force, which is operating under the auspices of the Health and Safety Authority, has not yet completed its deliberations and it would be inappropriate of me to comment further until those deliberations, and any recommendations arising thereon, have been completed. While it was originally envisaged that the task force would report in March of this year, the chairman has advised me that its deliberations are unlikely to be completed before next autumn.
