Vol. 521 No. 2

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

145 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will give details of charges in the Land Registry office-Registry of Deeds office to transfer title of a private house from one owner to the owner plus her daughter; if such charges have recently increased or are about to be increased; if he will estimate full charges for the transfer of a house valued at £150,000; if legal work can be done by his officials; and the fees that apply in this regard. [16800/00]

I can inform the Deputy that the registration fee for registering a deed "transferring a family home among members of a family" would be £70 in the Land Registry or £35 in the Registry of Deeds. The Land Registry fee was increased from £40 to £70 on 1 May 2000 by the Land Registration (Fees) Order 1999 (S.I. No. 343 of 1999). The Registry of Deeds fee was increased from £26 to £35 on 1 February 2000 by the Registry of Deeds (Fees) Order 1999 (S.I. No. 346 of 1999).

The requirements governing contract work or other such work by civil servants in their free time are as set out in the various circulars issued by the Department of Finance. These apply to civil servants serving in the registries as they do to all other civil servants and provide that an officer may not engage in private practice or be connected with any outside business which would interfere with the performance of his-her official duties. In addition, the Ethics in Public Office Act, 1995, requires certain office holders to make an annual statement of interests outlining details of any remuneration in excess of £2,000 received from outside employment-occupation.
