Vol. 523 No. 2

Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

139 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will instruct the Office of Public Works to take action to help a person (details supplied) in County Mayo whose factory is being continually flooded by a river during periods of heavy rain; if he will organise an Office of Public Works representative to call to this person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Ceist:

142 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will ascertain from the Office of Public Works the proposals it has to resolve the continual flooding by a river during heavy rain of a factory (details supplied) in County Mayo, particularly as it is threatening 12 jobs in a disadvantaged area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20862/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 139 and 142 together.

Louisburgh lies outside the boundaries of the Moy catchment drainage scheme and, consequently, the Commissioners of Public Works do not have responsibility for maintenance of the river in question. The Commissioners of Public Works have no plans to carry out drainage works in the area. However, I will arrange for an engineer to visit the person in question.
