Vol. 524 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

81 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of EU directives for which her Department has responsibility which have yet to be implemented; the number in respect of which the deadline for implementation has passed; the steps she is taking to ensure compliance by her Department with all EU directives; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21558/00]

There are currently 41 directives for implementation for which my Department has responsibility. While the implementation deadline for 17 of these has passed, it is foreseen that all 17 will be implemented before the end of this year. Details of the status of implementation of all 41 directives are available on my Department's website.

Prompt implementation of directives is an ongoing priority for both myself and my Department and progress in this area is monitored.

There are sometimes circumstances beyond the control of my Department which influence the timing of implementation and every effort is made to overcome these circumstances.
