61 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of vacancies for each Civil Service grade in his Department; the additional steps he will take to attract and keep staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22603/00]
Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.
My Department currently has vacancies for 43 permanent and 28 temporary staff. The details are set out on the following schedule. As the Deputy is no doubt aware, salary levels for the grades in question are determined centrally by the Department of Finance and I have little or no discretion in relation to the salaries which I can offer to new staff. My Department, however, where practicable promotes flexible working and other family friendly initiatives in an effort to attract and retain staff. My Department also has an attractive refund of fees scheme for staff wishing to undertake courses of study in their own time.
