Ceist:132 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of extra gardaí allocated to the Limerick City Division in 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22808/00]

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that 12 newly appointed probationer gardaí have been allocated so far in 2000.
Some 138 new probationer gardaí are due to be attested at the Garda College, Templemore, on 6 December 2000 and will be allocated to Garda divisions on 7 December 2000.
When this newly attested manpower is being allocated, the needs of Limerick division will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda divisions throughout the country.
