Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Parks.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

428 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the position regarding the setting up of the North Mayo National Park; if matters have been finalised regarding sale acquisition negotiations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23333/00]

An area of almost 10,000 hectares of land in the Owenduff-Nephin Beg area of north west Mayo was formally established by me as Ireland's sixth national park with effect from 1 November 1998.

Negotiations regarding the purchase of a site for the proposed visitor centre at Ballycroy are at an advanced stage and I hope they will be finalised shortly.
