Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Recruitment.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

199 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kildare was refused entry into the Defence Forces in view of the fact that his family has many members in the forces and he is also very keen to be a member; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22869/00]

All applicants for enlistment to the Defence Forces undergo a selection process which includes an interview, a medical, a fitness test and the appropriate security clearance. The person named has failed to meet one of the medical requirements. He has been advised of this and has been given an opportunity to seek further independent medical advice. His situation will be further reviewed if and when he furnishes further medical advice.
