228 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give details of the orthodontic waiting list in the Western Health Board region for each of the years from 1997 to 1999 and to date in 2000; and the expected length of time people have to wait to get orthodontic treatment. The provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons and the maintenance of waiting lists for treatment in the Western Health Board region is the statutory responsibility of that board.
All of the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. I have asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to the question raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him as soon as possible.

The employment of orthodontic staff is the responsibility of the health boards in the first instance. The following information which was made available to me on 24 October 2000 indicates the number of orthodontic staff employed by each health board:
