Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

272 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will ascertain from RTE the current position with regard to the broadcasting of their channels to north County Mayo; and when RTE will improve the signal in this area to give the people a proper reception. [23522/00]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day-to-day responsibility of the RTE Authority and I have no statutory function in the matter.

However, in accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of national broadcasting services.

RTE informs me that it is continuing to improve television services in north County Mayo. It has acquired a site and is currently awaiting delivery of transmitters. RTE hopes to work on the aerial installation within the next six weeks and to have it completed at the earliest possible date.
