The Brosna catchment drainage scheme was completed by the Commissioners of Public Works in 1955, under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945.
Under the terms of the Act, the commissioners are statutorily obliged to maintain the scheme in proper repair and effective condition. The commissioners have fulfilled this requirement by cleaning, on a programmed basis, a stretch of river each year. This year a stretch of river below Belmont was cleaned.
