Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Property Purchase.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

127 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he can establish the level of funds being expended in the purchase of property in other countries; and if this is likely to have any impact on our balance of payments. [23795/00]

There are no official statistics or information available on the amount of money expended in the purchase of property overseas. In addition, since the removal of exchange controls after 31 December 1992 there have been no restrictions on the movement of capital out of Ireland and the information sought by the Deputy is, therefore, unavailable. Such expenditures, like other investments, will be reflected in the capital account of the balance of payments.
