Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

196 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science when a psychological assessment will be undertaken in respect of persons (details supplied) in County Kildare. [23804/00]

Minister for Education and Science
(Dr. Woods): Following discussions with representatives of the health boards, the director of the national educational psychological service – NEPS – wrote to all schools in June of this year informing them that, pending the expansion of the NEPS, it had been agreed that referrals for urgent psychological assessments of pupils in schools which do not yet have access to its services should be directed to the relevant health board.
Since the school referred to by the Deputy has not yet been assigned to a psychologist from NEPS, the school should request the relevant health board to arrange for individual assessments in respect of the persons referred to.
