Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Admissions.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

585 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was offered admission dates by the Western Health Board and then told not to ring the hospital until after 12 noon, in view of the fact he lives 80 miles from Galway Regional Hospital; if he will intervene to ensure the health board deal with people in a more compassionate manner. [24630/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Question No. 586 taken with Question No. 201.
