Ceist:

830 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received an application for a computer or lap-top for a student (details supplied) in County Westmeath who is suffering from spinal muscular atrophy and who attends a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and if he will take steps to ensure that the lap-top or computer is delivered without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods):

I understand that my Department's inspectorate recently received an application for computer equipment for the pupil in question.

This application is currently under consideration and I have requested a member of the inspectorate to call to the school as a matter of priority to discuss the matter with the school authorities.

As soon as the inspector's report is received in my Department, a decision will be made on the application in question.
