Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Land Rental.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

172 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Defence the reason his Department is demanding a huge increase in rental from a person (details supplied) in County Kildare in view of the fact that the family have rented this land from the Department for a nominal fee since 1928 and in further view of the fact that, due to the conditions of the lease, the family can only graze 100 ewes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26028/00]

The land in question will be leased to the individual concerned for a further period of 21 years subject to agreement as to the precise terms and conditions which will apply, including the amount of annual rent. I am advised that negotiations in the matter are ongoing between the Chief State Solicitor's office and the individual's legal representatives. The valuation in this case was, in line with normal practice, assessed by the Commissioner of Valuation and reflects the market rental value of the property.
