I have not closed any Garda stations since I became Minister and I can confirm to the Deputy that I have no plans to reduce the existing number of Garda stations in the future.

Ceist:257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda stations in the country; the number of such stations open on a 24 hour basis, on a 12 hour basis and at a lesser level; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26062/00]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are 703 Garda stations in the country and that 154 of these are open on a 24 hour basis.
I am also informed that the remaining stations open for various periods according to local policing requirements and available Garda personnel.
