Ceist:

258 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of gardaí available and on duty on a nightly basis in Dublin city and other major cities throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26063/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that the personnel strength – all ranks – of each district in the Dublin Metropolitan Area as at 1 November 2000 is as follows:

The City of Waterford is policed by the district of Waterford which has a personnel strength – all ranks – as at 1 November 2000 of 137.
I should add that the Garda authorities have also informed me that county boundaries do not correlate to Garda district and divisional boundaries.
The Garda authorities have also informed me that, for operational reasons, the number of Garda personnel working at night cannot be divulged.

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that most of County Kildare is policed by the Districts of Naas, Kildare, Carlow and Baltinglass. I should add, in this regard, that the Garda authorities have also informed me that county boundaries do not correlate to Garda district and divisional boundaries. The Garda personnel strength – all ranks – of each of the above districts as of 1 November 2000 is as follows:
