Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

107 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made to date in the investigation into allegations of serious irregularities by members of the Garda in Donegal; if the investigation has concluded; if so, the action taken to date on the basis of its findings; if further action is planned; if the investigation into allegations that the phones of lawyers may have been tapped has been concluded; if so, the outcome of any such inquiry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25755/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the investigation carried out by Assistant Commissioner Carty into allegations of irregularities by members of the Garda in the Donegal division has been completed and a file in the matter has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions whose directions are awaited.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the allegation that the telephones of lawyers may have been tapped is being investigated.
