Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

108 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí and the ranks of gardaí presently attached to Rathfarnham Garda station, Dublin 14; his views on whether the facilities at the Garda station are very antiquated and grossly inadequate to assist the gardaí stationed there to carry out their duties; and if he has any proposals to construct a new and modern Garda station to serve the Rathfarnham area. [23873/00]

The current manpower strength at Rathfarnham Garda station is 63 comprising one inspector, eight sergeants and 54 gardaí.

Although there are no plans to construct a new Garda station in Rathfarnham, I can say that extensive refurbishment works are in progress at the station and are expected to be completed by the end of this year. Temporary portacabin accommodation has been provided in the meantime to alleviate the disruption caused by the building works.
