Jim Higgins

Ceist:

113 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the guidelines issued in respect of the interception of telephone calls for security purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25403/00]

The interception of telephone calls is governed by the provisions of the Interception of Postal Packets and Telecommunications Messages (Regulation) Act, 1993. Section 5 of the Act sets out the conditions justifying interception in the interests of the security of the State.
