Vol. 527 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

144 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 918 of 7 November 2000, progress has been made in extending a bus service to include a number of families at Fier, Ballinakill, County Laois; if further information and a report is now available; and when a decision will be made. [27900/00]

The position is that the three families, referred to by the Deputy, reside 0.6 miles, 0.6 miles and 1.5 miles respectively from the nearest pick-up point for the school bus. Normally, this is considered to be a reasonable level of service in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme.

In this case, however, concerns were raised regarding safety issues and a report was requested from the transport liaison officer in the matter. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as the report is received and assessed.
