Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

91 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress in the past three months in regard to the provision of a new Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if the site for the proposed station has been identified; when the new station is likely to be commissioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28120/00]

Following newspaper advertisements in October a further potentially suitable site was identified. The Commissioners of Public Works are awaiting an indication from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform as to the suitability of the site from the Garda authorities viewpoint.

As I indicated in response to previous questions, another site in the vicinity of Leixlip RC Church is also being considered. The Commissioners of Public Works are awaiting information sought from the vendor of the site in order to establish if it is suitable.

The acquisition of a site for a Garda station in Leixlip is being accorded top priority and a suitable site will be purchased at the earliest possible date. It is too early at this stage to say when the new station will be erected. Planning permission will be sought when a site is acquired.
