Vol. 527 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tax Concessions.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

92 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress over the summer months in connection with a possible relaxation of the 1994 disabled drivers/disabled passengers tax concessions with a view to meeting the requirements of the ever increasing number of applicants; if he has given or will give any directions to the interdepartmental group now studying the issue; if any deadline has been set for conclusion of discussions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28121/00]

As the Deputy is aware, an interdepartmental review group, under the chair of an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform was set up to review the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers' (tax concessions) scheme. I understand that the review group had several meetings over the summer months. I further understand that over 250 written submissions were received by the review group and that oral submissions were heard by the group over a three day period in early May 2000 and over a two half day period in September 2000. These submissions will help inform the group in its deliberations.

I have not given any direction to this group; nor do I think it is appropriate for me to do so. I have received no definite date for completion of the group's report.
