Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

354 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of staff employed in the Land Registry; and the number of staff directly employed on dealings in the Land Registry. [28738/00]

The total number of staff employed in the Land Registry on 31 October 2000, the most recent date for which figures are available, is 532. I should mention that this figure includes 54 officers serving in a job-sharing capacity but does not include Registry of Deeds staff.

Some 44 of the staff referred to above are employed in the support areas, that is, personnel, training, information systems, finance and corporate services units. However, it should be noted that these are support areas for both the Land Registry and the Registry of Deeds. I am informed that all other staff in the Land Registry are engaged in the processing of case work such as dealings, issuing copy maps and land certificates etc.
