Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Centre for the Visually Impaired.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

179 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has pledged his support for a national centre for the visually impaired in order that an integrated set of therapeutic and educational services can be delivered to children who need them. [28817/00]

I can assure the Deputy of my commitment to ensuring that all children with visual impairment have access to the special support services they require to enable them to succeed in education.

I recently received the report of the planning group which was established to examine the proposal for a national centre for the visually impaired.

The planning group's report puts forward a comprehensive range of very significant proposals. These are currently being examined in my Department and decisions will be taken in the context of this examination.
