Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

147 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will agree to the appointment of a consultant to draw up a road design for the provision of the relief road for Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28893/00]

The initial selection and prioritisation of projects to be funded under the various non-national road grant categories is a matter for individual road authorities.

Kilkenny County Council recently submitted one application to my Department for funding under the EU co-financed specific improvement grants scheme in respect of R693 – Threecastles. The council indicated that if it was not in a position to commence this scheme, it requested that Green's Bridge and Graiguenamanagh relief road might be considered as alternatives.

I intend to announce details of non-national road grant allocations for 2001, including the allocations under the specific improvement grants scheme, early next year.
