Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

148 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in relation to a new house grant for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who had a local authority house and vested same, and has since disposed of same and has not constructed his own new dwelling house on his own site; if such a person would be entitled to a new house grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28990/00]

A new house grant is payable to a first-time purchaser of a new house who fulfils the conditions of the grants scheme, which require, inter alia, that the applicant did not previously purchase, individually or with another person, a house for their own occupation in this State or abroad. It is not possible to determine whether a particular person would be eligible for a grant until an application and supporting documentation is received in the Department.
