220 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will purchase the Mosney camp, County Meath, and develop it as a centre of excellence for all to participate in sport. [29069/00]
Written Answers. - Purchase of Mosney Camp.
My Department has no plans to purchase the Mosney camp in County Meath. As the Deputy will be aware, the Government is fully committed to proceeding with the development of Campus and Stadium Ireland at Abbotstown. In addition to the stadium which will provide world class facilities for all field sports, the campus will include an aquatic and leisure centre, an indoor arena, multi-purpose indoor and outdoor facilities for a wide range of sports and activities, a sports science and medical centre, and headquarters for a number of sports organisations, including the National Community Games.
The National Coaching and Training Centre was established by the Government in 1992 to assist in raising the standards of coaching and training of coaches across all levels of sport and to provide specialised training for elite sportsmen and women through a structured coaching system, a comprehensive sports science programme and optimal training facilities.
