Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bus Service.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

111 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the reason there is a delay in providing new buses for Cork city; when these buses will be provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [29478/00]

I am informed by Bus Éireann that there has been no delay in the provision of new buses for Cork city. The company operates a total of 75 buses in the city. By the end of this year 50 new buses will have been put into service over the past 18 months. This year alone, 30 large and midi low floor buses will have been introduced in Cork. Twenty-one of these are replacement buses with the remaining nine buses being used for the introduction of one new orbital route and for improvements on existing routes.

These new buses have resulted in higher frequencies on some routes and allowed the introduction of additional services on a number of suburban routes in Cork city.
