Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

275 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be allocated for an extension of the public sewerage system in Shrule County Mayo to the Dalgan, Kilmaine and Glencorrib road. [29395/00]

Design drawings and specifications for stage two of Shrule sewerage scheme, which would serve the areas referred to, were submitted to my Department in 1990 but have not been approved. The scheme was twentieth on the list of schemes submitted by Mayo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme, 2000-2002, announced in July. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time. However, an application for an extension of the existing Shrule scheme to Dalgan Road under the serviced land initiative is being considered in the Department following receipt, on 27 November, of additional information on the proposal from the council.
