Vol. 528 No. 1

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

293 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has issued guidelines to the local authorities outlining the method of implementing the town renewal scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29354/00]

Detailed guidelines on the town renewal scheme were issued to county councils in July 1999. The guidelines set out the objectives of the scheme, the criteria for the selection of appropriate towns, the criteria for the preparation of town renewal plans in those towns, detailed advice on planning and design considerations as well as advice on consultations with local interests. Guidelines setting out the certification procedures to be implemented by county councils in connection with residential developments to be undertaken under the scheme will be issued shortly; guidelines dealing with commercial developments will issue when EU approval to this portion of the scheme is available, which is expected in late January or early February.

A further set of guidelines providing for arrangements in relation to the monitoring of the scheme by county councils will be issued in the new year.

Question No. 294 taken with No. 33.
