The latest figure available for the size of the national cattle herd is from the June 2000 agricultural crops and livestock survey conducted by the Central Statistics Office.
Provisional estimates from this survey were published on 18 October 2000 showing the total number of cattle in the State on 1 June 2000 at 7,232,400.
